L183 Starlight Bristlenose Pleco
Ancistrus dolichopterus
The L183 Starlight Pleco is a beautiful and highly desirable bristlenose species, recognised by its deep black body covered in fine white spots and a distinctive bright white edging along the dorsal and tail fins. Mature males develop prominent facial bristles, while females usually have shorter or fewer bristles.
Generally peaceful and suitable for community aquariums, Starlight Plecos appreciate plenty of caves, bogwood and shaded hiding areas. Mature males can become territorial around spawning caves, so several secure retreats should be provided when keeping more than one.
L183s require clean, well-oxygenated water and can be less tolerant of poor water quality than common bristlenose plecos. Their diet should include quality sinking pleco foods, algae wafers, vegetables, botanicals and occasional protein-rich foods.
