The Cardinal Tetra (Paracheirodon axelrodi) is one of the world’s most iconic tropical fish, celebrated for its dazzling electric blue stripe and vibrant ruby-red body. Their striking colours create an incredible shimmering display when kept in large groups, making them a timeless favourite for peaceful community aquariums.

Naturally found in the soft, blackwater rivers of South America, Cardinal Tetras thrive in well-planted aquariums with subdued lighting, open swimming areas and stable water conditions. They are peaceful schooling fish and should always be kept in groups of at least six, although larger shoals of ten or more allow them to display their natural behaviour and provide a truly breathtaking spectacle.

Despite their delicate appearance, Cardinal Tetras are hardy once established and make excellent companions for other peaceful tropical fish, shrimp and small bottom dwellers. A varied diet of quality micro pellets, flakes and frozen or live foods will help maintain their brilliant colouration and overall health.
