The Panda Garra (Garra flavatra) is a striking and active freshwater fish, loved for its bold black-and-white markings and fascinating personality. Native to the fast-flowing streams of Myanmar, these energetic algae grazers are constantly on the move, exploring every corner of the aquarium while helping to keep surfaces free from soft algae and biofilm.
Best kept in groups of five or more, Panda Garras are social fish that develop an interesting hierarchy without causing serious harm. They thrive in well-oxygenated aquariums with plenty of water movement, smooth rocks, wood and hiding places. Although excellent algae pickers, they should also be offered a varied diet including quality sinking foods, algae wafers and frozen treats to maintain their health and vibrant colours.
A hardy, entertaining and characterful species, the Panda Garra is an excellent choice for peaceful community aquariums and a favourite among aquarists looking for an active, eye-catching fish with plenty of personality.
